My name is Stephen Griffis and I am resonator guitar maker in beautiful Somerset, Kentucky. I love making instruments that will bring years of delight to the player and those listening.
After hearing Jerry Douglas play with Alison Krauss in 2002 I went out and bought a nut extension for an old classical guitar that I had, grabbed a 3/4" deep socket out of my dad's tool box, tuned to open D and tirelessly worked on "The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn." The seed was planted and, though I never got past the intro, I fell in love with the "Dobro." 14 years later my passion for woodworking merged with my love for the resonator guitar and I built my first instrument. It was ugly and heavy but it played music....and that's all I cared about. Now, after dozens of guitars I am still honing in on that perfect sound. In 2018 I met setup expert Bobby Wright. With my attention to detail and Bobby's unique ear we are creating instruments that are aesthetically and acoustically pleasing. HEAR FOR YOURSELF |
